What's that noise?

Folks,

After my first autocross driver's ed event I noticed a new noise in my 1987 Carrera 911. When I depress the clutch pedal fully, there's a whining noise coming from the rear of the car. If I release the clutch even a little bit - an inch - the noise disappears.

Any ideas what's causing it? I've got my first high-speed driver's ed coming up in a few weeks and the noise's got me worried.

Thanks,
Boris

My car did that when the release bearing was being pushed to hard against the preasure plate.try adjusting your clutch cause I think its going in to far when the pedal is pushed in at the way.

It's an '87 with a hydraulic non-adjustable clutch (as far as I know)

Boris,

Well, if you haven't recently flushed and bled your clutch hydraulic circuit, try that ... it probably needs it whether related to the throwout bearing noise, or not. Most throwout bearing noise is not imminent danger, but, how is the clutch operating, overall?

You may need to start planning a clutch job.

I'm not sure I'd be too scared by that noise. I'd check it out, like you're doing, but I might dismiss it for DE purposes. I doubt you will be sustaining any high speeds with the clutch pedal depressed.

Other than that noise the clutch is operating fine. I'll look into replacing the clutch fluid soon - thanks for the tip.
