Has anyone ever cleaned and lubricated the ignition switch where the key is inserted. I did the procedure on my sticky door locks by taking them apart and it worked great, the key does not stick when sliding in and out. So, I took the ignition switch out of the car to try the same thing but after removing the electrical connector, the switch and steering wheel lock mechanism looks to be a sealed unit. I would love to get that switch as smooth as my door locks. Any advice.
Thanks. nick '70 911 E |

Yeah, Nick-I took the switch on my '66 apart and cleaned all the contacts, lubed everything, then re-crimped the tabs (only 3 small ones, if I remember right-it's been a while) holding the electrical portion to the outer body. Feels like new-smooth and precise. Did the same with the light, wiper and turn signal switches. Took a few nights, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing them-and I just like fixing old things and making them work like new.

there's some tiny rivets inside that get loose. chances of fixing them approach nil. yours is different than a 66. replacement is the only option. pricey.
