I have a sticking right-front caliper and I'm trying to decide if it's time to replace both front calipers or just go for the brake line replacement.
I have a 1970 911T with 95k miles and original calipers. I only drive 2-3k miles per year and do not track at all. I am trying to get the car ready for a show this weekend and not a lot of time after work to mess with. From what I can tell, it looks like I have blocked brake line (original lines) and potentially a caliper that may need replacing. I am definitely going for all new lines, and pads. The question is do I replace the calipers and if so, do I go for remanufactured or new? The price for new is about $220-250 and remanufactured tends to be about $99. I'm wary of remanufactured units since there is not much info on what "remanufactured" really means. Thanks, Dan |

Dan:
There is really not much involved in rebuilding your own calipers, if you chose to do it. Professionally remanufactured calipers should be just as good as new ones, specially if you bought them from a source with a good reputation. ------------------ Marv Evans '72 911E |

Rebuilding the calipers isn't bad. If you took them off, you'd see how easily the fit together.
The problem with working on the brakes is bleeding the bloody brakes when you've got it all back together, and then assuring yourself, you didn't make a mistake. You just end up with brake fluid everywhere, and it's like having cooties because if you touch your paint with it, you're doomed. Otherwise, get a buddy (a woman will do if the only option), and have em do all the brake pumping while you de-airate the lines. ------------------ Kurt B '84 Carrera Cab. carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |
