Cibie Driving Light Repair
The bulb in one of my bonnet mounted lights has exploded , shattering the
yellow surround for the bulb, and badly discolouring the reflector and glass. I can't see how to get it apart to remove the broken glass and try and clean the inside. Any advice would be appreciated- also what is the correct bulb type for these lights. __________________

Dave
the chrome surround ring is basically clipped into place over a ridge of the "boule". The ring should have a pull tab on the bottom so you can pop it off. Once you do that, the fasteners will become visible so you can access the reflector

Thanks Dave,
I have done that and unscrewed the light unit. I have removed what is left of the bulb, but can't remove the metal back of the unit to get rid of the broken class, and try and clean the discolouration of the reflector and inside of the glass. Maybe it is not possible to do this. someone told me once it was possible to remove the yellow glass surround of the bulb fitted to French lights. It seemed to me if this was possible, then i should be able to get in to clean the interior.

ok- so if i understand you correctly, the bulb holder casting that is pressed into the reflector housing is what you are looking to remove? This is a little tricky as you will notice the bumps on the brown part of the reflector metal, just under the bulb holder. These correspond to protrusions on the bulb holder to keep it in place.
Cibie pressed them into place at time of mfg. I have removed them by carefully prying a little at a time , around the circumference using some wide , but thin bladed screwdrivers if you are referring to removal of the glass lens itself from the reflector, that is a MUCH harder job ! I gave up trying to do so on a pair of bi oscars years ago- the glue was stronger than the glass and metal. Maybe someone reading this knows of a solvent to help soften that glue w/o ruining the reflector

Thanks Dave- bulb holder came out easier than I expected, and now
fixed and back in. As I was unable to replace the yellow cover, I dismantled the other light and removed its yellow cover so they match.

good-
yeah, they use some tough sealant on those filters to hold them in place. When we had a Citroen SM, I broke 2 of the four covers , removing those yellow filters- and the glass was sharp!
