Are Toyo RA1s still the best choice for AX & DE?

When I last bought tires (end of '06) the RA1 was highly recommended for a near dedicated AX & track car. Any better choices? Shaved or unshaved?

It's what I use. I also like them because they're street-legal and I can drive to the track on them.

Hoosier A6 or Kuhmo V710 is better for AX. The RA-1 is best for DE.

In my experience though not with P-cars I actually like the Kumho Victoracer more both AX and DE application.

The RA-1s do allow you to run a lot of heat cycles through them and they are also very consistant within a run group. They don't get hot and fall off. For AX, they don't get up to temperature quickly enough on a light car. I also run a 72 911.

+1 for the victor racers. Heard the nitto's are good too.

I'm running the BFG R1s, and they are a better track tire than an autox tire. They are very similar to a Hoosier R6 in both DE and autox, actually, but with better wear. They are numb at the limits in autox, though. The R6 (and A6 nd V710 and even RA-1) communicate better with the driver than the R1.

The RA-1 remains an all-around favorite for me...track, autox and street, in all temps and weather.
