Engine cuts out intermittently in right turns...

1986 Porsche 930
OEM fuel system and injectors
139,000 miles
3/4 tank of fuel

Last week, while making a quick 90-degree right-hand turn off a street, my Porsche suddenly stalled. It lost all power as I got on the gas hard (1st gear), but then it immediately (about a second or two) started up again. I did not have to crank it over. It drove normally after that.

Last night, it did it again. This time, I was on a faster (2nd gear) turn to the right (again 90 degrees). Mid-corner (apex) it cut out completely for about a second or two, and then restarted itself. Again, it drove just fine the rest of the trip.

I am thinking it is fuel-related, or maybe a loose wire?

Thanks in advance.

- Mike

Mine did that when I overfilled the oil. Every time I would take a hard right it would cut off.

Maybe...?

The oil level is normal. I did add 1/2 qt. last week, but it isn't overfilled.

That would be cool, but Porsche didn't offer it in 1986.

Take a look at the ignition coil and see if any braided wire spark plug wires may be touching one of the small primary terminals while cornering.

Make sure the plug is fully inserted in the CD unit.

There are so many electrical things with the ignition or fuel pump circut that it could be...

I think I may have found the problem. After poking around with a flashlight, I noticed the "overboost switch" wire had vibrated loose. The wire has a rubber housing, so it was kept in loose contact with the switch. I assume right turns pulled on the wire and it broke contact... I know the overboost switch will kill the engine (it is designed to kick-in and kill the engine at about 1.3 bar if the wastegate fails).

I hope this was it.
