I just picked up a 71 911T for 6K. It needs some attention, but it runs and looks real good. The bargins are out there if you are patient to wait for the good ones.

Don't feel too bad, most of us have been there.

I purchased the "donor" car for my bastard project back in 1996. It was a one owner '78 Euro that needed nothing but a set of new fenders from a side-swipe. Paid $12K.

To fund that project I needed to sell my current 911, a '73T widebody. That car had been gone through from headlight to tailpipe with a rebuilt engine, tranny and much more. Black/tan, Weber conversion with supertraps and a Weltmiester suspension. 9&12x15 Fuchs with 255/345 tires. Badass hotrod but I wanted a turbo.

I could not give that car away.
Nobody wanted that "ugly front end". After over 60 inquiries and low-ball offers I let it go for a wallet numming $11K. I had more than that in the drive train alone.
What would that car be worth today, just 12 years later .....

Hate to admit this but a few months ago I saw a Pre '74 in the paper for $6,XXX and kept telling myself there has to be something wrong but I never investigated it. Yes, I'm still kicking myself...argghhhh.

I'm sure we can all play this game. My first 911 was almost a 73.5 T that had RS bodywork on it. I declined on the $10k price because it needed a new battery (had to jump it every time) and the rear bumper was actually a one piece post '74 look fiberglass unit. If I knew how easy that would have been to change...duh.

Of course, had I not turned that car down, Tyson Schmidt (?sp) would not have Tangerina Jolie right now. :p

Update...we are now 911 owners! :D

I did not get this car for $10k. But I felt it more important to get a good car, which this is, so we went over budget. But right now I'm ok with that.

Have to thank Pat S here on the boards for building such a nice car. :) If we can keep it through the move out West, this will be a great car for us for many years to come!

We just spent more than we figured we might, too, on another vacation to Mexico! But that's OK!

Picked up my 1977 Carrera 3.0 for under $10K last August with less than 54,000 on the odometer. It's a good car to drive and fix up as I go. Took me several months of searching before I found it, but they are out there!

My '88 Carrera cost 11K. It has a lot of miles (235K) and has never been rebuilt. The valve guides are toast, but it runs and that's about all I need these days. The paint is good at 10 feet an better at 20. :D

So, if you're willing to take in a substandard car, you can get a bargain. I'm sure I could get my money of this car if I wanted.

Interestingly, there's a 3.2 Carrera locally that's been for sale for a long time that I probably could have bought for about $9.5k, but it has 169k miles (and it's gold...which isn't that important to me, but still....gold). It probably would be fine, much like yours, but I just feared needing to drop another $10k into relatively soon. While that can certainly happen to any old car, I felt it important to find a car with less of that risk.

And here we are...

I am not selling mine....but I still think its good that the prices are going up.
Compaired to most used cars out there, the 911 cant be beat at any price.

Whats crazy is seeing these 2003 twin turbos going for mid 50's.

my mechanic flips porsches he tryed to sell me a backdated 75 rs in silver for 9 thousand i passed on it and he sold it on ebay the guy who bought it sold it for 17 thousand and i ended up buying a 7300 dollar 81 sc with every fender dented a sunroof that used to leak a gallon of water on my lap when i would stop and despite all those problems being fixed now i have a gas leak, just be patient it is a virtue you know and the one you dream about will fall in youre lap and hopefully not with a gallon of rainwater
