I just got off the phone with a couple crankshaft specialty places up in Boise and this is what they quoted me:
Place 1: $20 mag and $20 for the micropolish Place 2: $37 mag and $30 for the micropolish Is it just me or is this excessivly cheap? I was expecting to spend a couple hundred dollars for this. Am I just so incredibly numb to the usual Porsche "tax" that I have become blind to the exorbitant amounts we pay for stuff, or are these quotes too low and should be avoided due to low standards. Honestly I'm more comfortable with the thought of going with the more expensive place. Ironically these are the only two "Crankshaft Specialty" places in town and they are within a 1/2 mile of each other. There has to be some explaination as to why one charges $15 more for the same job. On a related note, I asked one of them about "tanking" my engine case. I am aware that I would need to make sure the Hot tank will not melt my engine case and when I asked, the guy said, "oh, yeah...you need a Cold Tank" Anyone ever hear of a "Cold Tank"? |

Leland, Ollie's gets 20 and 20. They are a reputable shop. European car mag is doing a 911 rehab, Ollie's is the shop they used.
