Post Talk me out of this-BoxsterS for my 911

The dealer that I bought my beloved 94 C2 cab from has two black 2000 BoxsterS's available. The trade would be my car and about $9K. I've not gone to see them yet but I am quite intrigued. I'd go from 1994 technology to 2000 technology and from 50,000 miles to 13,000 miles and some remaining warranty (I think). From a 5 spd to a 6 spd and from a rear engine 255 hp +/-to mid-engine 255 hp +/-. Back seat is not an issue as my 911 has the seat delete option.

I love my 911 but I've always lusted for the BoxsterS. I can't afford to have both (assuming I want to stay married. . .and yes, I do). Why shouldn't I do this?

Help. . .I'm in a weakened state.

Mike

No reason not to do it - I would take the Boxster S over a 964 Cab. More solid, faster/cleaner roof design, better handling. Great car - incredible limits of adhesion!

Mike... have you *driven* the Boxster S yet?
It is a fantastic car in all respects (except the exhaust sound, and that is fixable).
I had the use of one for an afternoon and did not want to give it back. Your '94 C2 is a very desirable car, but you can't really compare it to the Boxster S as they are *very* different cars in almost every aspect.
Drive the S and see for yourself.

If you want one, I say go for it. The only rational reason to not switch is the depreciation on the Boxsters is supposedly going to be more steep than the 911s; they haven't been around long enough to get a real feel for it though. Besides, I keep hearing that the 964s won't hold their value all that well either.

[Boorish, insensitive opinon deleted.]

The Boxster is a nice car, and the S model performs well.

Put the 9 grand into a supercharger and suspension/brake mods for the 964 and you'll have a rocket that is still a "real" Porsche. The Boxster S is a kick ass car but has a bit of an image problem and is just *too* good. A little boring as a result. I don't know, I'm just partial to cars with unique character. I won't look down on you if you do it though. I'd be very tempted myself. If I had the money I'd buy a Boxster S but I just couldn't EVER be without a 911. I guarantee you'll miss the 964 if you trade.

Watching Boxsters depreciate, I have a vision in my head of a 3.6 twin turbo, some sort of slant nose (928 type lights) and of course really big flares and a GT1 kind of wing. My simple minded vision of a GT1 speedster. I still would have to keep a real 911 around.

Taking a look at the latest issue of the Porsche Market Letter (PML), I don't see any undue depreciation for the Boxster S. The earlier Boxsters are taking a bit of a hit, probably due to the fact many owners are trading up to an S. The prices in the PML are usually a good indication of which models are holding their own in the market.

Mike, snap out of it. A Boxter is a girl's car.

I wonder which car Randy Wells would keep if he could only have 1 Porsche. His Boxster S or his Kick-ass 72 911 with the motec 3.2? Hmmmm......

Well, the Boxster S "is" my wife's car - I agree with Tyson - there is no substitute for a 911, especially an early one. The ideal for me is having a 911 and a Boxster S to drive depending on the day/mood.

OK if none of this has swayed you to keep the "real" Porsche, consider this. You'll get way more seat time in the 964 than in the Boxster. Girls just love to drive them things 'cause they're "so easy to drive, it's just like my Honda". I say put a racing clutch in the 964 to go with the supercharger, so the pedal will be so stiff that your wife will ALLways let you drive. Makes sense to me!

Easy solution.
Keep your car. Someone said boxsters are a chicks ride, so.........? Then you got a 2 P car family! You got the 964 and she has da boxster! And you are still married.

I don't know what these people are thinking, telling you to stay with the 964, go drive a boxter S, you'll change your opinion after taking the first turn, getting on the brakes for the first time!

I think the engine note is beautifull, but even more impressive are the brakes, and the handling. The car also has plenty of go power too. I always thought the boxters are not as macho as the 911s, but I think the 964s look just weird anyway!

Go drive one, you'll see what I mean!

My hand is raised. What, like the 964 has bad brakes and handling? Give me a break! These cars kick ass!

I'd wait until they come out with the Boxter RS lightweight coupe. Oh that's right, they aren't.
Anyway take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
