Exclamation 996 facelift & Boxster Coupe?

Anyone who've seen the "Heft 9" issue of the german Auto Motor & Sport magazine? There's an article on the facelifted 996 and an upcoming Boxster Coupe. The 996 looks better with Turbo headlights, but the Boxster Coupe?!!? Argh it's ugly

Ouch. I preferred the fake one done by the auto magazine artist. Why no quarter window?

Of course, this one might be just as speculative. Our local Boxster-design celebrity, Stef, could clear this up in a heartbeat (although I imagine it could also get him in hot water at work).

Stef?

The rear window is surely a hatch. I'm guessing the rear quarters of the greenhouse are disguised. Imagine, if you will, a slightly smaller version of the 996 rear quarter window in place of that slab of sheetmetal aft of the door glass. Jack, perhaps you could use your graphic skills to illustrate!

Well hell....
If you put quarter windows on that thing it would be pretty hard to tell the difference between a Boxster and a 996!

hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em...

Actually, I kinda like that big ol' slab o' glass. Reminds me of the old Lamborghini 350GT.

It looks like every car magazine is trying to design the Boxster Coupe for us (and some of their efforts are real pig-ugly).
We have built two asymmetrical mockups to get a feel for the thing. One of those mockups were presented in a "clinic" to test public reaction to the idea of a Boxster Coupe. A "clinic" participant then ran to the press with his/her story. Fortunately the gob****e is not a car person and could not describe any real detail (that's why you have so many different magazine "design" versions). The rumours just get better as time goes by, like f.i. that we plan a Boxster Coupe with 4-wheel drive. How on earth would you get the drive to the front wheels?
Don't get too exited about the Coupe yet. We were just testing the concept, and production is a long way off (if ever).
Regards
S

I just realized that the picture of the magazine front page has been replaced with the next issue...

Anyway I think Stef is right. The magazines sometimes exaggerate, but I do remember the first pictures of the 996 in ams. They were pretty close to the end result.
