DIY on DVD?
After reading some of the horror stories about motormeister and other questionable repair shops,i thought it would be a great idea if Pelican could offer a repair series on DVD.I'm not sure what production costs would be,but i think you could make some money doing this,(and save us a small fortune).Maybe we could take a poll and see what people might be interested in,i would like to see clutch replacement, torsion bars, valve adjustments ,engine top-end and 915 tranny overhaul. When you think about shop labor rates, paying 200 to 500 bucks for one of these sets is a great deal.(remember i'm just guessing on prices)What do you think??????

DVD's don't lend themselves to reference information. And my kids demonstrate all the time that greasy fingerprints ruin them. Learn by reading, then doing.

It's not really a good format for this, in my opinion, and they are very expensive and difficult to produce correctly.

The other good thing is develop a relationship with a good mechanic who does not mind answering questions. Many of the books out there are great, but even those and websites have instructions that make the job harder. For example, Wayne's GREAT books all say split motor and transmission IN THE CAR. I helped a friend do this the first time I dropped a 911 motor and it was a PITA to do, particularly re-stabing the 915 Trans and clutch arm etc. I talked to my mechanic and he said "WHAT its 10x faster and easier to drop the trans and motor all as one". I've gotten good enough (don't ask why) to do a complete motor swap in 4 hours by myself (yes.. i do have a scissor lift, which makes things infinitely easier, but on my buddies car, we just lifted the back end high enough with a front end loader and a big tie down strap protected with soft rags where it touched the rear of the car.. doubles nicely as a hoist to get the motor onto an engine stand also

A picture is worth a 1000 words and 29.97fps means that each second is worth 29970 words
![]() Seriously, I create instructional multimedia apps and occasionally videos. If you do not have the right person putting it together it will be worthless. That being said if I were involved in such a project and had access to all of those California film students I would think about using that cheap labor to put something together.
