Original shroud /fan colors!
I am polishing out my fan, but am wondering what color the shroud was on a factory new car (87 911)? Is it the same bright magnesium color of the fan? I am thinking of painting/powdercoating the shroud black unless it would be more appropriate to go w/a silver color.

Here's my deal...
If you polish the fan itself, it wouldn't be all that hard to keep it looking nice. But if you try to polish the shroud, I think it would be a bear to get in there to keep it looking nice. Unless you just want to remove the whole thing every month or so to brighten it up. I suggest you do what I'm going to do. Polish the fan and powdercoat the shroud  Screw originality!

My shroud/fan was blasted and painted factory colors. I'm no purist, you do what you want. This is just what it would look like:
