3.2 Skidoo ......

I had this great idea...why not get rid of my troubled 2.7 & buy a 3.2 motor & plug it in my Targa !!!! has anyone else thought of this ???

Seriously...after years (literally) of procrastination, I finally got a 3.2 for my 75 Targa...(thanks, Al at PartsHeaven)...I am so thankful to everyone out there that has gone before me on this road & for all the great documentation & threads/pics etc that are here on Pelican...
The motor I got is an 87 with low miles & 180's/ 0%-2% on all 6 INSPITE of the fact that there is one broken devlar on #'s 1, 2 & 3... sooooo I will be pulling it down to replace all 24 with the factory steel ones. The guides seem OK with the 'ol side to side screwdriver test, but will probably need a "while your at it" redo...
I'm planning to use "old style" (74) HI's from SSI & the early style double snout style for the heater tubes to the HI's... I have orig. factory "snouts" but I'm concerned that the left side(all tin)one will interfere with the dizzy, the 3.2 style being fatter then the early Bosch units...has anyone already invented this wheel??? before I go cutting & welding on the one I have......
Any advise or ideas about this project will be appreciated...& yes, I still have the alum. S calipers & will concider changing them out for beefier fronts..but AFTER I've got the motor in & sorted...

Thanks.... Darkbeer !!!!

If I'm not mistaken only the bottom row is Dilivar so you only need to replace the bottom row of studs.

You'll love the 3.2 in the light body. Enjoy!

will the old style SSI's meet air quality inspection so you can keep those bluest skies in the US?

B...only do the bottoms???(sounds very SanFrancisco..) I thought that would make the P-Gods frown !!!! don't see why it wouldn't work though a long as I use Factory steels & not Raceware etc etc....

R....My Targa is a '75....& is "smog exempt" in Californ ya! That's the very reason I sold my 78 SC & 76 912E ....the "rolling" 30 year exemption law got killed at 1975...& there was no joy in fighting to keep them smog legal & at the same time, have some fun with upgrades & other goodies. The Smog Nazi's down here are dull witted & brutal.....

Any one out there "back dated" their 3.2 to the "early (74 & older) style heater ducting from shroud to HI's ???

Wow were you in my garage today? I am doing the exact same project. My 3.2 is out of an 85 and going into my 76 targa. I am planning on using a B&B style exhaust. Which means I will have to backdate the oil line. I believe you can use backdated HE's on the 3.2 but they need to have the right flanges. I also have the backdated heater pieces but they came with the motor. They wrap around the dist with no problem.

Also don't forget to notch your transmission.

THANKS; Pookie-man.....That will be cool if the "snout" fits behind the dizzy without having to bash it around at all...I just today got a set of "used" SSI old style HI's with the "thick" flanges...all my exh. studs are out already so I could have used the shorter ones & the "thin" flange SSI's..but am happy with what I scored...I also got a SS muffler with the deal (I am SOOOO stoked..) also, the SSI HI's have the bus welded on for the O2 sensor that the DME needs... Got the DME brain, altatude thingy & relay plus relay board, DME tach, coil, fuel lines, fuel pump, DME wire harness, & the shorter studs for my 915 bellhousing...
My 3.2 is from an 87...still have to fix the 3 broken studs while NOT getting to caught up in the "while I'm at it's"....I'll be notchin'......

let me know how it goes.....

PS: I forgot to mention....the "old" slyle J oil return tube & an 84-86 flywheel & press.plate for my 915...oh, & the steel studs to replace the Devlars.....
I'm pretty sure I can still use the '75 oil tank set up!!! ???? anyone have to change that??? the 3.2 has more oil hoses it seems.....

The heat duct that you have that goes around the distributor is a 930 part. You can use an early 911 duct but it has to be modified to fit around the distributor.

Scott..the duct I have is the left one from a 74 motor...fits behind miss Dizzy & feeds air to the left HI...I havn't tried to squeez it in yet but suspected that the larger 3.2 dizzy would perhaps interfer with its ability to fit....
I also wonder about that tin shelf that is on the front left (front of car) engine 3.2 tinwork at the bellhousing...will the HI snout that delivers air to that side of the body, hit that shelf????

A 3.2 in a Ski Doo.....I am SUCH a Left coast beach bum....I have no experience with "Ski Doo's"....my orig title "3.2 Skidoo" was ment to be a silly rendition of the "roaring 20's" saying "23 skido"....I never thought of 85eurocarrera's rendition...VERY CLEVER !!!!

heads are at the machinest...youall were right....only need to replace the lower Dilivars......I'm slow as hell ! but I have a good excuse...I'm also "rebuilding" our house too & my wife's kitchen is higher on the "list" then the Targa...
Is it the agreed upon "way" to use the rocker shaft seals when I reassemble the cam towers ???? stainless steal exhaust studs seem to make sense too...
has anyone "backdated" to the 74 style clutch cable & TO fork set up to get away from that 90 eg. bend in the 75-77 cable ????
Thanks.....
