Does car need to be level to fill Tranny
I have an 84 911 with the 915 tranny . I just replaced the axle seals and am ready to refill the transmission.
I have a gallon of swepco and the Pelican hand pump. I am wondering if the car should be level for the filling ? It would be much easier to fill if I could leave the rear of the car up on the axle stands it now resides on but am concerned it will not hold the correct amount. WHen I drained the tranny only 2.2litersof old fluid came out. |

I would attempt to get the car as level as possible(raising the front to match the rear elevation.) It really does help if it is level. Good luck!! Tony.

As I remember, the filler plug is roughly near the lateral center of the transmission, so it really wouldn't make an enormous difference whether the car was level, tipped forward or tipped aft. This is an area where I wouldn't be hysterical about centering the bubble.

Fill it slowly, I think it takes about 3.2 liters to fill. You could always take the fill plug out once you are on level ground to see if anything comes out. My car was on wheel casters for the winter so it was a bit easier to get under it while I was doing the change.
