fuel accumulator

getting the fuel accumulator out of the car was the worst hour i ever spent with this car so far. maybe im a baby but working in such a confined space, trying to get the nuts loose without ruining a fuel line was not easy. you gotta use two wrenchs at the same time in order to get leverage. very frustrating. and i wont know if i ruined a fuel line till its all back together which sucks

when i finally got it out, fuel leaked out the bottom which i guess is a sign its failed?

fuel filter was removed as well. 25 years its been on there im quite sure.

Did you remove the heater blower? This is a pretty easy job and you need to routinely change the fuel filter anyway. Were the two still attached to the console with clamps?

yea. i think i bought the blower from you last year?
anyway, yea i made room.
tried with it connected but eventually had to remove hose clamps to angle the filter and accumulator so i could get leverage with the wrenches
the hose on the bottom of accumulator was the worst and the one im most worried about now. i was a little too rough with it

hopefully my replacement parts will be here early next week and ill have the spilled gas cleaned up well

I use a set of Snap-on line wrenches on all fittings like these, not a bad investment.

curious about something. ive got some left over teflon thread tape that i used when fitting a motorcycle tank gas lines

i was gonna use it on the fittings for the fuel filter and accumulator since i have it in the tool box

i assume this is a good idea?

Nope, you don't need any teflon tape for these connections.

well i got the fuel filter and accumulator installed and the car started after building up pressure

however, im now filled with paranoia that the car is going to burn up. seems that getting everything back in place required so much twisting and bending of everything that the fittings would loosen up. and getting a wrench(s) on them was/is not possible with the tools i have

im not at all confident that the lines going into the top of the accumulator are tight enough. i kept the car running about 5 minutes and saw no gas seepage

this was not an easy job for me. it sucked

Scott,

Maybe but not necessarily true all the time. The fuel coming out from the bottom of the FA could be fuel from the return line to the tank or from the fuel pump. Unless you pressure test a FA, it is difficult to tell whether the diaphragm/membrane is bad or not. A defective FA will leak at the bottom when pressurized. A good working FA will have fuel at the bottom section too when disconnected from a working system .
