Thumbs down Ebay listing - Should this be called a replica?

Check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=585048283.

It's listed as a "1997 Porsche 993 Coupe LOOK Blk/Gry". Read much farther down and it says that it's built on a 74 chassis, 5 speed gearbox (instead of 6), and a 3.2L engine (instead of 3.6L).

Deceptive listing? Should this be called a replica?

If it's a 993 in look only, how did the seller pick 1997? I wonder whether it shows up as a 1997 model under the VIN number.

The dumbest ass thing about that is the 3.2 L engine. A 3.6 would make more sense. I don't understand that kind of frankensteinian stuff, esp on a porsche.

Why is it you find so much of that stuff in LA?

The most laughable part is the diatribe lead in. He wants to sell a car and he starts by insulting buyers. The guy is an idiot.

I think that this is the only time that you could associate Porsche with "junk" as opposed to "hybrid mutation"!!!

It's a Bitsa, as they say in the old motorbike fraternity! 20K for someone else's version of a '74 seems bizarre. Also, it is a common trick to photo/show cars with a light bead up of water to make it difficult to see sheet metal imperfections.

Suspicious me!

Unfortunately, there is so much of this phony crap on EBAY, it makes one's head swim.

This outfit posts these types of cars all the time. Most of them are on 2.7 year bodys, with who knows what engine stuck in them, sometimes a 2.7 or 3, sometimes a 3.2. They throw on a body kit and whola! A Super Car! I've seen at least a dozen of their cars over the last year. A lot of targa to cab conversions. With they high cost of body shop labor in California I've always wondered if they send them south of the border to get done. Can't see how they make any money. The next questions is, who buys these "things"?
Can't see any of these showing up to the local track!

I think it looks pretty good.

If you are into that kind of conversion project... They claim it is all metal.

It is not anything that I would buy, but good for a person who wants a different looking car.

Think of how much lighter that car would be than a real one... Might be speedy..?

Did you ever notice how a wet car always looks good. I wonder just how good that paint is?
