Long Term Engine Storage
Hi Folks! I'm looking to buy this 996 engine at a local shop in New York but it has been sitting in a dry storage for 6 years now. It has very low miles and is in great shape. Would the rubber seals, etc. get compromised if it has been stored this long? Thanks.

Six years of sitting for ANY engine can be problematic. Many factors apply.
Storage conditions, damp/dry? Did they pull the spark plugs and oil/mist the cyclinders prior? Was the engine occasional turned/crank rotated over? Price. Purchasing to just install and run ...consider the above. Purchasing to rebuild ...ignore all above except ...price?

I know the engine Elfer's looking at--I put him onto it--and as for "storage" conditions, it's simply been sitting on the shop floor, large independent Porsche shop, on some 4x4s in an area that has normal indoor humidity and temperature conditions night and day. It's not in a back room, or outside under cover or anything like that. I'm almost certain nobody has turned it over or touched it in any way, and I seriously doubt it was ever pre-oiled in any way. (I'll be checking for sure tomorrow.)
