Tire size for the 14" Fuchs ?

Hi,

What tires would you put on 14" Fuchs in 1970 T ? 185/80/14 would be a good choice?

Marcin

You might want to try 109X70X14

I ran them on my 71E and they worked very well.

195/70 is close to correct, actually same diameter as 205/60x15.
Vredestein has the correct 185/70HR 14

I prefere the size that came on early VW GTIs, whose wheels (6X14) are closest to the 5.5X14 Fuch, a 195/60/14.

Thanks for all suggestions.
So according to the factory it should be 185/80/14 but for the better ride/cornering 195/60/15?

I would think twice about putting 185-80s on. I've got 195-70s on my '70T and the sidewall looks very big. 185-80-14 might look like a truck tire. The 195-70-14 tires will give you a nice smooth ride. I think 185-70-14 or 195-65 would also be a nice way to go. just my 2 cents

I like to use http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html.

I'm currently running 185/70x14s on my 68. Compared with the original 15" steelies, the circumference gives an engine rpm that is noticeably higher (how are you going to be using the car?).

A 195/70x14 will cut the error roughly in half. 195/75x14s will be about right, but you will still have the tall sidewall the wheel was originally designed for (they did call it the comfort option!). So it's a trade-off.

I'm probably going to replace them with Vredesteins in the original size for two reasons. First, the '68 was already lowered when I got it. With the 185/70s I can't use my floor jack without first driving the car up on some 2x4s I cut (it's dang low). It's incredibly fun, but I'm less concerned with all-out performance and would rather keep the revs lower now that I have the '84 (the second reason).

Thanks once again. I think I will go for originals to improve comfort.
I live in Poland and the roads here are bit bumpy.
