BOGE to BILSTEINS, bump stops?

Replacing my shocks and have a couple of detail questions for those in the know.

There were not bump stops with the front struts. They are Bilsteins replacements for Boge.

Are the bump stops internal to the strut as there were none?

Also, there is a little rubber washer, where was that supposed to go? I left it out.

Also, when I took the Boge front struts out light oil went all over. What a mess.

Thank you in advance.

The rubber stops are part of the strut ass'y, but I think you should have gotten new ones with the new shocks. But, you confuse me with the terms "struts." Did you mean shocks or inserts?

One washer is a wavy plastic thing and it relieves air pressure during the shock travel, not that means much. And, the light oil is there to transfer heat generated by shock travel to the outside tube of the strut ass'y. It's only a couple of onces.

You need some kind of bump stop in there and I don't think Bilstein builds that into the insert itself. Here's an image from the Bilstein site;

It shows new stops but says that the image may not be the actual product for your selection.

edit: oops, that didn't work

OK, go here; http://www.smartracingproducts.com/pdfdocs/bilstein_rubbershock_front.pdf

Took the oil out.

No wavy washer. Just a little rubber one. may go above hat to keep it from moving.

I think the pic you referred me to is for an original Bilstein strut with a roll pin at the bottom.

Mine are the Boge replacement struts with a screw on cap nut. As I think of it, there is no real place for a bump stop. The shaft is like 1" plus in diameter. It must be built into the strut.

Struts in front, shocks in rear.

The rear shocks do have bump stops (I will trim.)

All help is appreciated.

Bilstein Strut inserts

Just replaced my Boge strut inserts with new Bilsteins on my '73 and the info sheet that came with them states that to not reuse the rubber bump stops as they are internal now and not necessary.

Scott's got it, they're internal, and the little rubber washer is for shipping purposes and should be tossed and no oil is necessary for the Bilstein inserts. Sounds like you're there!
