Power window height adjust

Hi all..

I have what I hope to be a dumb question about adjusting the upper stop on my driver's side power window. Have searched and searched, and found a few text descriptions of bolts in slots or holes in the door panel, but I cannot seem to match any of these descriptions up to what I am seeing in my door. I also don't have a Bentley manual or Wayne's book (my next purchase it seems), which are also referred to often as a good guide.

My car is an 84 cabriolet, and I am trying to avoid "trying" all the adjustment bolts as my car actually does not leak a single drop in a Vancouver rainstorm, so I'm trying to avoid getting into the "dark art" of window sealing on my cab, and looking for some help in identifying the height adjustment bolt.

My window rolls up about 2mm too far right now, and I'm looking to adjust the upper stop. Here's a pic of the inside of my door.

(I had to put the handle back on to drive it to work today)

I have located the 4 allen bolts that hold the regulator, and the bolts behind the rubber stoppers that adjust the angle of the sliders. Many threads reference a hole or slot near the lock knob, straight down from the rear pillar on the front wedge window, but my door has nothing in that slot that looks like it can be adjusted. ??

Any and all suggestions welcome. Anyone have a pic of the bolt/stop/whatever I need to be looking for?

Oh yeah.. here is my noobie inaguaral pic :-)
Love this board!

I have an SC, but should be the same. I had to raise/lower the window to get the adjustment nut to appear. Should be in the oblong slot just to the right of the upper portion of the door handle.

Yellow points to the slot.

Tim.. I think that second shot you posted will do the trick. I can see that nut in the oblong slot (same place as Jay indicates with the yellow arrow in his post). I figured it was a lateral adjust because the adjustment play is left/right. not up down like I was expecting to see.

I'll try it all tonight, and let you know the results! Thanks for all the pics, and Draco for the PM!

I'm having a similar problem with my 1990 Cab. Can anyone tell me how I get a cpy of this workshop manual for my car? Thanks.

Great topic as I have the same issue on drivers side Targa. Its my next project I suppose. Thanks!

Which manual is better, Waynes or Bentley?

Just to keep this thread up to date...

For those people with a Porsche 964, there is no locking screw on the height adjustment bolt of 964's, and you do not need to line up and stop bracket. The door panel needs to have the wiring hooked up to be able to operate and test the window height, which is a huge PITA, but if you're careful or have help you can kind of leave it connected while you test it out.

Just loosen the 13mm (1/2" deep socket works well) bolt and then slide it back to lower, forward to raise. Use a marker to mark the position of the round washer as you adjust a bit at a time.

To adjust tilt, loosen the one bolt with 5mm Hex and then the one on the end. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.. :)

Hello from France!
Love to get this document that seems to be an additional workshop manual dedicated to fine tune targa top and windows.
Am I right?
If so, Anyone kind enough to send it to me?

Thank you in advance

There is a great Youtube video from Fanny and Heidi on how to make the height adjustment.
