Another stupid question!

I see guys tagging their messages as

"EURO SC"

How does one know if your car is EURO or know.

Or is this just set to EURO spec?

Or are these guys posting and actualy in Europe?

Just interested...

This means the cars are "from" Europe
Obvious cues would be:

-Side marker lamps on the fender
-Driver's side rear view mirror only (I think)
-No Aux air regulator or decel valves on the engine (ie the two gold flying saucer shaped thingeys on the right of the airbox)
-Many have no A/C (it was optional)
-Many have no fogs
-A greater option list of interior and exterior colors were available
-More HP on the 80-83 SC b/c of higher compression pistons
-K-basic CIS rather than K-Lambda on the 80-83 SC
-I think there was a lower ride height from the factory on Euro cars (25.5" front, 25" rear?)

That should sum it up!
Nick.

Not to mention for most years, it is pretty easy to tell from the VIN.

Biggest give away is the narrow bumper stops in the rear to make room for the wider European license plates.

Not so sure about the lack of an aux air regulator or decel valve. Mine has both.

Euro really means "ROW" or "Rest of World". Porsche had slightly different variants for the US market, and even CA market. Everything else was called ROW.

Kamikazi,
All the porsches are from Europe, but are sold to various places, and are made to suit the requirments--if any--of those countries--Euro models have less emissions-different lighting set ups-some right hand steering wheels-lower ride heights-but yes---it's definately in the Vin #, and you should reference it to a dealer, or Bruce, andersons book..........

luck.......

For a Euro car your vin will be:
WP0 1st 3 digits for porsche
ZZZ 2nd 3 digits for ROW
ETC.

It also means that the cars had to brought into compliance to be legal and must have with it the letters of compliance from the DOT and EPA. It has been rumoured that some people with uncompliant ROW cars (GREY MARKET) found themselves with no insurance after a accident because the cars were "unsafe". In theory it is illegal to sell a ROW without these letters of compliance. FYI I know, it took me two months to find mine. I obtained my 911SC from a US Marshal auction.
