Post Help identifying electrical connector...

On my '82 SC, I found a small electrical connector in the engine compartment that had been taped over with electrical tape by the PO and was not connected to anything. It is the type with the two round "bullet" type connections within the plug, one wire is brown and one is red with a white stripe. I cannot find such a connector on my wiring diagram so far. The wire comes out of a harness just below the airbox that disappears towards the middle of the fan shroud. The only non-functional components in the car are the cruise control, which I believe I have traced to a clutch switch (the servo is plugged in) The rear defogger also only energizes a few lines in the center section of the glass despite the fact that there is continuity across all but one of the lines. I have never seen any other matching plug anywhere, though. It seems that something was deliberately removed by the PO. Did these cars have air pumps or something else that may have been removed by a PO in the past?

Thanks,

Olivier

I found something close on the wiring diagrams...could it be the "supplementary air valve"?

If so, what is (was) it, do I need it, and what does it look like?

Thanks,

Olivier

Look in this thread, probably the same wire.

I think I have the same connector loose ('76 2.7 CIS). My mechanic told me, that it is the original plug coming from the CIS. Its purpose is to get wired to the fuel pump so that the fuel pump is only running with either the starter turning or the CIS flap moving (=engine running).
As my connector is loose and my fuel pump is running all the time with ignition on, this makes sense.
We discovered it after removing the engine (to fix the usual oul leaks in the thermostat area).

Just another option.

Jens, it should be really easy to tell if that is what the wire is for on your car. Can you hear your fuel pump running with the ignition on/engine off? I can hear my fuel pump clearly from outside the car with the engine running, I am sure I could hear it from inside the car if the pump was running with the engine off.
