Opinions on this 911 car (ad) please...

Hi Guys,

It has been a while. Absent due to illness, so forgive if I'm violating forum etiquette by asking about this ad. I sold my '85 Targa when I got sick, but looking for a P-car again.

Does this ad seem bogus or believable? Worth looking into?

It's an ad from a dealer. Just go down there and take a look.

I mean ballpark, is this about right what that should cost? I'm looking for a little insight before throwing myself to the wolves.

www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com are good sources of car pricing, and www.ebaymotors.com now has historical auction data available so you can see what cars have been actually selling for. If your supermarket/bookstore has Excellence magazine (www.excellencemag.com) you can look in the back for the section where users tell what they paid for cars with editorial comments, as another option.

A little annoying at the bottom where he lists the "turbo boxter". I would worry he would not really be able to tell you much about the car's history- have a good ppi if you get serious.

That list at the bottom is just his list of keywords to try to pick up hits to various people's searches. It isn't really specific to this ad. His list includes various Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, etc models.

As to the original question:
The price of the 996s has dropped like a rock so this seems to be in the price range. A lot of car for the price.
It won't drive with the same soul as an 80s Carrera though!

Yes, it is not an '80s Carrera, but it is quite a car in its own right.

99's with the 3.4 litre seem to be the least desirable of the 996s though. However, there are quite a few good cars around. Some 3.4s had the slipped sleeve issue and the weaker intermediate shafts. However, the majority are solid cars.

The sport design wheels are a plus, the best looking P-car wheel from the 986/996 days IMO.

Check it out, if it looks promising get a PPI. The price certainly is not high sounding.

Thanks for the info guys.

I guess my mindset is low miles after '89 is going to be >$30K

It has been a while.
