Oil Sump Stud Popped?
Hello all,
Well I performed my first oil change on my '79 SC this past weekend. After searching the archives, I had planned to take the advice to clean the sump strainer and replace with the 2 new gaskets. I did not get the new nyloc nuts (yet) but figured the old ones would do this go around. All went well with the drain (thanks for the gush warnings) until I got to removing the 10 mm nuts from the sump plate. I noticed that one of the studs was longer than the others while loosening. I then probed furhter and noticed that the STUD!!! was turning and not the nut. For fear of not being able to finishing the job, and since I had not yet broken the gasket seal, I carefully retightend all of the nuts and replaced the oil. Luckily, no leaks. (This is a particularly tight engine.) So... what should I do now? I wondered if I could reseat the stud with loctite and then be about my business. Or, I could never take the sump plate off. What do you all recommend?
Thanks in advance! (THIS IS A GREAT BOARD!!)
