I cut mine off with a box cutter and replaced it with a leather after market cover. Looks really good if you dye the inner boot. Pelican sells the aftermarket deal .

Great question (I have the same problem). My handle is loose- is it supposed to slide off or is there some kind of retainer? Ajurquhart- where are you? What year of car do you have?

Paul.

I used a dremel and cut it from tip to tip. The handle will smoke like crazy though!

ajurquhart:

Okay, there are a couple of rules here. 1) Please add your location to your profile, so we know where you are, and 2) post pics of your car! Where in the Highlands are you? I used to live between Dalwhinnie and Newtonmore. As for the parking brake handle- let us know how it works out!

Cheers,

Paul.

I think the easiest way to deal with this problem is to use a box cutter or knife and just cut long ways down the plastic handle. Once you have a single long cut, it will just peal off.

I removed it with a heat gun, applying enough heat to soften the glue that's on the inside, but not enough to melt the plastic handle. If you don't have a heat gun you can use a hair dryer.

+1 on the Dremel or small cutoff wheel. I placed lots of rags about to catch the plastic dust and other bits. Once cut through it is very easy to remove. I replaced mine with a Billet aluminium one from http://www.betterbodiesmotorsport.com/interiors/customal/handbrake.html
and am very pleased with the result

Thumbs up Thanks all

Gents,
I`m going to go with the "heat" option initially, i`ll borrow the hairdrier, if that fails i`ll cut it off, then i suppose i will just glue the new one back on...
Once again thanks to all for the advice.
