Fuel Filter Fitting

I actually don't recall which side of the filter, inlet/outlet, but the fitting on my fuel filter will not fit the new filter. The female section on the filter is smaller than the threaded portion of my fitting. Does anyone have a size and/or suggestion on locating one of these fittings?

Thanks,

SC-filters have been changed a few times in size and type of nipples.
I always wanted a large filter for my '80, and ended up re-using the male nipples from the old filter. My lines are female top and bottom.
It means that I cannot order a filter by just stating: It's for an '80 SC, because I'll get the wrong filter with female one side, male on the other.
Use the nipples from the old filter if you can, or take the old filter to your shop and get the same one.

Makes sense Gunter. There actually may be a part number on the filter. I did just as you state I ordered from our host for a '79 SC. Possibly a PO changed out the filter and fitting. I will investigate further.

Thanks,

If I recall correctly, the fitting is an M16 x 1.5, but who knows what you've got there

Just thought I would bump this thread because it basically discusses my problem. Just got a filter for my 80 SC & it will not fit. Only one fitting from the old filter will fit. Any ideas about what I need to do to get a fitting that will work on the new “correct” filter?? Also, assuming I get the thing to work, should the arrows point up towards the engine lid? Below is a pic of what I have. Oh, and the fitting at the bottom of the pic is upside down.

been here, done this..

you tell the guy in the local parts store your car's year and model..and the fuel filter doesn't fit..or you order based upon same criteria from pelican and the same problem. i wound up going to the local foreign parts store and had him bring out 'a bunch of porsche fuel filters'. finally found a match on one for like a '79 924..or something like that. yeah, it's fun, but once you find the right one..DO NOT LOSE THE PART NUMBER!

Why is this such a PITA? Just Curious, what car does the filter I bought work on?

It's been an ongoing problem because Porsche changed the filter sizes and nipples around 1980.
Some SC's have a small-diameter filter, and some have a large diameter with different nipple configurations.
I wanted the bigger filter and ended up re-using the nipples from the old filter, meaning: I have male/male fittings on the filter and female/female cap nuts on the lines.
Fuel Filter, (Mahle) 911 (1981-83) 928-110-147-05-M67 $25.75
The arrow on the filter points up, it indicates flow; coming from the accumulator, fuel goes into the filter from the bottom and goes from the top of the filter to the fuel distributor.
Keep the fittings from the old filter and let us know which type (Number) you'll end up with.
I think this filter compares with your old one:
Fuel Filter (Bosch 0 450 905 003), 911 (1974-76) 911-110-176-00-M14 $12.75

Manipulate the lines/cap nuts a little, don't cross-thead the fittings and use two wrenches when you tighten up the lines.

Cheers,

make sure you test it before shutting the lid and driving off..and use teflon tape..almost everytime i think i've gotten it tight enough, i turn the key to power up the fuel pump and there's a leak. good luck.

Can someone ID my old filter pictured above so I can order one from our host? I would hate to blow more money on the wrong part.

Thanks everyone,

There is no number on your old filter; hard to say what it is.
The new filter in your picture shows Bosch 0 450 905 079.
Can you not use your old male fittings and screw them into the new filter?

Go here and look at the photos and compare.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=911M&section=BASflt&page=2&bookmark=7&part_number=911-110-176-00-M14

These two look about right:

0 450 905 003 with male/male fittings
0 450 905 021 female/female thread (Use your old male/male fittings)

THE BIG PROBLEM IS THAT FILTERS IN THE PHOTOS DO NOT MATCH THE ACTUAL BOSCH NUMBERS GIVEN IN THE PELICAN CATALOG.
Example: 0 450 905 021 in the Pelican catalog is actually 0 450 905 079 when you enlarge the photo.
The same mismatch goes for the 0 450 905 003.

Until Pelican matches the photos of the filters with the actual Bosch numbers, the confusion will continue.

It's a mess.

Let us know which one will finally fit.

Thanks for all of the help. I think this (BOSH #: 0 450 905 003) is it. I'll let you guys know when it comes in. It is suppose to work for: Fits 911 75-76, 924 76-80. How that translates into working on my 80 sc I have no idea. Here is a better pic:

The number I got for the 81 targa was different than what was on it.. I think I had to swap a fitting.. it worked though... Leaked at first and I had to cut it off right awawy...look out there.. use line wrenches..good ones.. cheap ones flex too much..

Got the part (BOSH #: 0 450 905 003) in today. worked like a charm, PITA though, not putting it in or out, the process of picking up somthing that should be routine.

I have a filter fitment question for my SC.

Below is a new filter I ordered about a year ago and per the order slip is was the correct one but on the filter itself it is stamped 0 450 905 281 and per Pelican it is for the 930.

Will it still fit?

Thanks

Look at your old filter:
Does it have Male/Male nipples?
If so, it'll work. (BTW: The nipples can be removed/changed)
Use 2 wrenches to remove/replace filters; one on the cap nut, one on the nipple or filter-hex.

I had the same problem last year on my '80 SC, ordered a new fuel filter and it did not fit.
Called my parts supplier (EBS) and we went over the whole scenario. Told them the inlet fittings are different and won't fit the filter?
They ended up sending me a fliter for a '74 if I'm not mistaken, and it works - no problem.
I save the box with the part number, so when I order a new one, I'll just give them the number.

the filter on my 83 sc is a mahle and when you look at the numbers on it and compare them to pelican numbers, it is supposedly for a 84 carrera.
