Mobil1 15w50 at Costco

I've seen Mobil1 15w50 at Costco over the last 6 months or so for $30/six quarts. I think $5 a quart is decent. I suspect many of us who suffer with winters are looking for fresh oil for spring.
Just fyi.

Hi Chris:

Beware of the API SM grade stuff. It may not be the bargain you think.

Read me.

You'd better hope none of the Motor Oil Fundamentalists read this. They're trying hard to save the souls of nonbelievers by full immersion into Brad Penn and Swepco.

WIX filters and Mobil 1 15w 50 for my 911

Okay. Right you are. SM grade. Would this be usable if I find and use a ZDDP additive? Or is this best to return?
Thanks,
CL

I have purposely avoided the oil purest threads because they only seem to recommend rare oils that PCA members tend to sell out of their trunks like Amway soap.

Can someone post the short list of mainstream oils that are okay?

The Mobil One 15/50 and the Extended Performace version both have 1200 ppm of zddp as per the Mobil web site. Each of them are SM oils but do not attempt to meet the more stringent epa regulation(I believe GF-4?, from memory) limiting ZDDP to 800 ppm. I found their web site very informative esp. their Q and A section, Jerry

I think Billy Mays is selling pure ZDDP in pure form like Mighty Putty. No check that. I was dreaming.

Billy only sells the stuff to get it out from under your fingernails. What were you thinking.

Mobil 1 web site is very helpful. As is the customer service phone number.

With all the back and forth about motor oils, none of the self-appointed experts have provided proof that Mobil 1's silver cap 15w50 is any less effective than the brands they are promoting.

Other than the exhaustive and scientifically valid oil analysis, using multiple samples, sampling and testing brand new oil, sampling and testing oil after it has been run in the engine a while, etc., you are correct. No proof at all other than that.

I have used Mobile1 0W40 and have no leaks. Also used Mobile synthetic for my tranny oil.
Surprised that Porsche actually needed to change their recommended oil for older cars.

From now on I am trusting the Pelicans. I plan to go to Brad Penn partical synthetic next time around.
