mechanical or electronic speedo drive?

I'm trying to determine the cost to convert to an electronic speedo.

My mechanical speedo works just fine. But if I move to a newer transmission, it will be a lot easier to find one with an electronic drive than a mech. drive.

1a. I'd have to buy an electronic speedometer, then (1b) get the face converted to the older style with the chrome button. Anybody got an idea what the face conversion would cost?

2. I'd have to run the wires to the tranny nose. Anybody know where they are supposed to go? I assume it is just 2 wires (?)

Is there any advantage to this in general?
- other than just an easier choice of transmissions to buy?
