964 fan in 3.2
Hi,
Has anyone tried fitting a 964 fan to a 3.2? Is it possible? I`d like to go for the side exit and lose the engine blower... cheers Alex |

I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish? If you're referring to "backdating the heat" (i.e. removing the engine compartment fan), that's doable (on a Carrera) by simply adding a left hand hot air duct (from a 930, etc.).
Gratuitous pics of Carrera heater backdate... edited: BTW...welcome aboard! |

He wants to use the cool looking 964 3.6 Fan alternator assembly on his 3.2!
I'm not sure if it works however I somehow remember seeing someone attempt this at some point on the forums, try searching a bit. Someone surly has done it if possible. JW |

cheers keith, the 964 fins seem to be a different design which helps the movement of air to the cabin....at least i`m sure i have read that somewhere...and seeing as my fan is making a real noise when cold, i thought i might upgrade the whole lot...

The diameter of the fan assembly is larger in diameter; the shroud is also shaped differently and does not have the provision for ducting air to the oil cooler. Also, the intake ports are shaped differently on the shroud...Not a direct swap.
The 3.6 fan pushes less air...the change was made to reduce the noise level of the fan. If you still want to pursue this let me know as I have all of the parts available. |

I like the noise of the 3.2 fan. Distinctive from every other 911 engine.

You can as Keith said keep your 3.2 fan and backdate the ducts using the eariler kind. and disable your blower in the motor compartment. From what it looks like its not really worth changing the 3.6 fan over to your 3.2 no real purpose other than the cool curved fan look. Keep the 3.2 fan and just backdate the exhaust get some SSIs on there and you will have plenty of heat and plenty of fun!

thanks for the great comments everyone - think a new set of bearings and back date is the answer....

That's a double negative in my book. but....
3.6 fan=less noise, less flow, but looks cool.
