Post cloudy headlights

The headlights on my '87 cab are cloudy. I think they contain halogen bulbs, and the aren't sealed. Has anyone taken these apart and tried to clean and polish them? I've just priced new ones and I'm in shock!
Thanks

If they are like my H4s on my 83, they can be taken apart. There is a gasket sealing the glass part from the metal or metallic pot. This is most likely leaking. There is also a bunch of spring clips holding it all together...if they are not on evenly spaced, you can get leaks.

Just take it apart a take alook.

Cheers,

Mike

Qwak,
Where did you find the best price on new lenses? I holed mine yesterday. Yes you can wash them I did that a couple of weeks ago.
Bottle of alcohol and a long hemostat. Pull out the bulb. Soak a rag with isopropyl alcohol thats about 3x3". Grab the little 3x3 with the hemo's and insert thru the bulb hole, wash like you would ..... Change rags if it's really dirty, let dry in the sun. Don't use water, you won't get it all out and then they fog when put back together. The isopropyl was 90 + proof, not the wimpy 60% cheap stuff. Just don't sniff too closely or you may drop the lense. Know where to buy the 3M plastic covers for the new lense. My guess is the lense will be $100 ++. At least alcohol doesn't get under your fingernails.

Before you take them apart, try this,
Take the assembly off the car. remove the Halogen bulb.
Using a clean wad of cloth and some isopropol alcohol, and a thin flexible stick of some kind (I "CAREFULLY" used a metal coathanger with some athletic tape to protect the lamp from the metal) Dampen the cloth in the alcohol, insert it into the lamp assembly and gently rub it around inside the lamp through the opening for the bulb. Then remove the wad and let the remaining alcohol air dry, then re-assemble.

I did the same thing rayz did. Mine looked foggy. You can send them out and have them disassembled but why? and why chance breaking them? Paper towel, tape, and a coat hanger worked for me.

I've seen replacement lenses for H-4's for $30-$40, but I can't remember where. Have you looked here at Pelican?
