Porsche Key Cutting

I bought a blank for my key and I can't find anyone who can cut it. Does anyone know who can do this or what needs to be done? Have I just not found someone with the right equipment? Do I HAVE to go to the dealer? Thanks,

I had my blanks cut at a local "Big R" store. Any hardware store will do this for you.

If you have a key that works-take it and your new blank to Home Depot and they will cut for you. They did mine for free but were a little hesitant about doing it-I told them give it a try, if you mess up the new key, I won't hold you responsible. It works perfectly. One note: If I recall, there was a groove or cut on the original key close to the part you hold to turn it that was not on the new blank and they could not make the cut on the new key, but it must not be necessary because mine works in all keyholes without it.

I took my Porsche key blank to an independent lock shop in town and they did a great job. Home Depot would not do it and neither would an Ace hardware store.

Thanks, guys. I'll keep trying to find someone who will do it. Lowes refused and so did an independent locksmith. Hopefully, I can find someone. Thanks again,

One nice thing about living in a small town (Jefferson City, MO) is the locksmith shop has been here for 50 years. Took him a bit of searching, but not only could he cut the key, but he had a couple of Porsche blanks in stock! I'm looking at it now and the blank is "Ilco" number P05.

Aubrey I had mine done at the local hardware store. These guys had trouble doing my garage door locks but did a perfect job on after market blanks. Good Luck.

Some shops are willing to cut the steel blanks and charge you a bit extra for the life lost on their cutters, keep looking, you may find someone with the harder wheels.

R22tech, I must have gone to the same Home Depot. I took my new key blank in and the guy told me that because it was a two sided key, he was afraid to cut it. I told him that if he messed it up I would not hold him responsible. So he took my old key and the new blank and went to work. It worked like a charm and he did not even charge me for it!

I bought two blanks on EBAY, but have not had them cut yet. I previously bought a second key at the dealer (PO only had one) and the jerks wanted $45!! I don't trust their service department and I now know their mission is to rip people off. I wanted spares so I bought more blanks.

I asked the local Porsche dealer if the can cut me a new master key from the chassis number details. They said sure but it takes a couple of weeks, being from the Porsche factory, and would cost me New Zealand $110.00 (that's about real money USD $40.00). But the good thing about it is it's not a poor copy of a worn out key.

Had the same experience with Home Depot. Bought the key blank from Pelican and Home Depot cut it for free. Worked fine.
