Intake Runners and Injectors?

Hi all,

I have the intake runners at home, and planned to hit them with a wire wheel to brighten them up. To prepare them, I removed the injectors, but on 3 of the 6 runners, the whole injector assembly came out. It's a reddish orange, hard plastic housing that the injector slides into.

I have several questions if you don't mind:

1. Do the injector seal kits include this reddish orange housing? If not, what is it called? One of these is broken, so at least one will need replacing.
2. There's an "O" ring on this housing that I would assume seals it into the injector port on the intake runner. Are these "O" rings included in the injector seal kit?
3. The injectors look pretty "gummed" up, so should I simply replace them or can they be easily cleaned?
4. Regarding the intake runners, is it OK to bead blast them? I used the wire wheel to get as much as I could, and the sections I did look new! I figure a bead blaster would be more thorough.
5. How do you clean the INSIDE of the intake runners? As you might expect, mine have 23 years of build-up on the interior walls, and I would imagine the car would run even better if they were clean inside.

Thanks!

Michael -
I just did something similar on my 82SC. I wound up buying all new inserts, orings and injectors. Used Dow silicon grease on all the orings...then restaked the inserts into the intake runners. It really made a big difference to my car! I was really impressed. Throttle response was significantly improved. In the end, I gave up on polishing the outside of the intake runners. Too much work and really hard to see under all the other ducting. I did clean out the insides with Brakeclean. Nothing special.

Thanks...........

What do you mean by "restaked the inserts"?

Seadweller, I can't comment on the insert issue as mine didn't come out but I used a bottle brush to swab back and forth inside the runners in a solvent tank. Worked pretty good for me.
