RIP 89 911 cab
well guys, my GP white cab is off the the crusher after meeting it's match with a light standard on Good Friday. The good news.....only bumps and bruises for myself and a passenger. Interesting note, the force of the impact melted my passenger's nylon jacket under the seat belt on his shoulder! Will have to make due with my 540i but I'll be back!!

too bad you couldn't get the 3.2 out of it. Congrats on making it out safe and sound though.

Why is that. Why not take some good stuff out. I am confused....Anyhow, it looks like a lot of energy was absorbed by the car rather than the passengers. That's the good news. Now lets get down to bidness, I am looking for.... just kidding. I hope to see you back in a 911 soon. ![]() Ingo

I doubt they will crush the car with no attempt to part it out; I assume he means that he does not intend to buy it back from the insurance company?
LOL Seriously - If you have a chance to get some parts I need some easy ones! |

Looks like you slid sideways into a pole? Good thing the impact wasn't a foot forward.

For a convertible it held up pretty well - I'm impressed... inside is a g-50 and a 3.2 that's just waiting for another life...

I remember the name of that tow company when I lived in Cowgary...I mean...Calgary. Ahh the memories of the west. On the plus side, another Porscheaholic lives to tell another story! Good news.
Where did it happen in the city? I know the NE and SW areas better than the others. Sorry about your loss...

All, thanks for the responses, the term going to the crusher is rather vague, it is going to auction where I assume a wrecker will part it out and crush the rest. I would be very suspect of the engine and transmission, it took a big hit and was ripped from the body. It is hard to tell from the pic. As for the back ground of the crash, I was on a merge ramp, accelerating around a decreasing radius corner and went over a frost heave that upset (lightened) the rear. I think you know where this is going! As I entered more steering for the tighter turn, the rear came out on me....cold pavement, cold tires. Counter steering caught the first over-steer but the second one was obstructed by roadside gravel (left over from winter) and the rest is history.

For those of us from warmer climates what is a "frost heave"?

Wow that's crazy. The thing that scares me a little about cabs is if you'd had an angle (ie, if the pole hadn't hit so perpendicular to the floorpan) it seems like the car might have folded. Is that the case? or did you actually hit at an angle?
Either way, glad you're alive and typing. That could have been really nasty.

to answer several more questions, yes I hit the pole at an angle, first contact on the LHS door, then more severely behind seat and onto the rear tire which flipped the car around 180 degrees. As for the frost heave, in the winter the ground freezes, depending on the severity of the winter in this area up to 2-3 feet into the ground. In the spring, the ground will move - or heave - as the frost comes out of the ground. In some parts of the country up here, you can't move off road at all (too soft), it is called spring break up.

Man,..that's terrible...could of easily been worse for you.....good news you walked away.
At what speed were you traveling? Man, I learned some new terms today (frost heave, spring break up) Thanks. Best of luck to you!!!
