Before I Do Something Dumb...

Howdy,

I'm replacing the console face plate that retains the 2 A/C switches and the one radio fader dial. It appears that the fader switch wants to be installed from front to back, however there is no plugs or connectors on the wiring. Is there some way to install the fader switch from the back of the face plate?

My old face plate was cracked, I bet the PO before me tried to make the same install and broke the face plate, HELP...

Thanks,

Mitch: Mine broke, too. If you've upgraded your radio, you're probably not using the fader switch anymore. Remove it, or tape it off behind the console. Pelican sells a plate to cover up the hole where the fader switch is supposed to go. It's part # 911-552-271-00-OEM. A whopping $2.75.

There's a connector for it, the wiring might just a little longer than the others.

I bypassed mine and the sound quality from the rears was improved. Still sounds not so good though, but better.

I found that the wiring connector on my '84 was actually below the carpeting at the front (forward) of the console not at the switch.

Once the wires are disconnected the console should move enough for you to press a small metal spring clip on the top of the fader switch which snugs it against the back side of face plate. The switch will come out through the front of the face plate.

Thanks you guys.

The plug is where you said it was... I had to take the console back up, but after that is was a breeze.

I really appreciate the help...
