How do I get the wax off my engine?
Does anyone know how I can remove that waxy coating on my engine case and valve covers? I have the valve covers off so they won't be so bad but I don't really feel like scraping my whole engine case to get the stuff off. Anything I can spray on?

Body shops use a product called "tumbler"to remove wax and grease.I would try brake cleaner first as I've used that to clean my engine case and it seems to work good and is easily attainable.Good Luck ------------------ Grant 75 911s targa |

Steam or high pressure hot water. But it is a protectant which does little harm(traps heat) except visual pollution.

Mike,
I used a citrus based cleaner I picked up a Home Depot, can't remember the name right now, it was right next to the Simple Green type cleaners. It was promoted as an oil and grease remover. Sprayed it on and used a brass brush to remover the wax. It took about three times but it sure smelled alot better than solvent based clean...it was over the winter and I was locked in the garage. |
Thanks for the info guys, I plan to try all your methods to get that silly wax off my engine!
Thanks again. Mike 86 Carrera t |
