Post 964 service manual's...

Hello all. Can anyone recommend a service manual for the 964? Possibly a very detailed one?

Also what or where is the best source to find other detailed info on this model? Like available options, colors, interior options etc.

Thanks again!!!!!!

Chris

At present, info on the 964 is few and far between. You can go to www.alldata.com and subscribe for 1 year to their service for $20.00 (it's general service procedures...but not all, ALL TSBs, and some theory of operation). You will NOT find info on how to overhaul an 3.6L engine at AllData!! The other place is the Porsche Service manuals. Not much to write home about either and costly, but better than nothing. The Porsche manuals will cover everything, but (in my opinion) they're disorganized. It's a multi-volume set that comes in binders and could have fit in one single fairly thick book like most other car service manuals.

Pelican Parts had them listed but they were out of stock (try again, that was months ago). I ended up ordering from a place in Excellence magazine called "My Porsche"...nothing but manuals and docs if I'm not mistaken.

Good Luck,

They have the best prices I have seen for factory service manuals. I ordered a parts manual from them, and got it very quickly.

The factory manuals suck, but they are about all you have. I also purchased the 993 manuals in addition to the 964 manuals since many of that parts are shared...and the 993 manuals are much better than the 964 (but not a substitute) and cost less.

I have found that I can get the manuals from my local Porsche dealer cheaper than My Porsche and I don't have to pay for shipping. I would check your dealer first then My Porsche is the next best choice for manuals.

Dave:

Buying the 993 manuals never occurred to me as a 964 owner. Why are they so much better? Do they actually contain things like troubleshooting procedures? How do the electronics between an 964 and a 993 compare....same Hammer or are there different codes and sensor operations we need to be concerned about?

Thanks,

Bill Wagner
