My 911S story:part III detaling and finishing

So i decide to start new tread as part III of my story:

so here you are link to part II:

My 911S story :rebuilding history -suspension and painting part II

and here to part I:

My 911S story - rebuilding history start today part I

So Today I received from Porsche Factory all data about my car (Certificate of origin)
I found some interesting point and like to follow here for you.
First most important and need to clear in future (like to find name of first owner) is such line in Certificate:
Delivered 905=works employee
so looks that an employee of Porsche Factory was first owner of this car!
Color: 2010 patelblau (as it is paint jet!)
date of invoice : 701101
so here again surprise as I have in Title 1971 so probably when car was exported to Canada (when?) they use Vin number to decode year and as it was 1971 model -> they put 1971 in Title but car is 100% 1970!!!
Options: there are several position but important to me was:
498 without type on rear lid
499 without type on glovebox

so looks that first owner didn't like to show what had have!
From second side it is ver impotrant news! Why? As rear lid is form steel instead of aluminum as I was learned should to be.
Remember that in all books and tread it was write that S model should have aluminum rear lid! but here I have proof that not at all why? because mine was without whole for 911S script on rear lid - so it is original lid from this car!!!! without script (I currently made wholes for script before painting - too fast)
So very interesting even for me.

24.11.05

So today willl put some pics. As far I am ready for detailing and interior work as well.
I need to work on :
1.engine detailing (engine is rebuild and run perfect!)
2.exhaust detailing (have ssi hx but think about ssi muffler)
3.wheel detailing
4.interior redone
5.targa top retrim
5.last chrome to add on the body
So I count 3 Mont's for rest of the work as I have winter time. Just find "pepita" material source for 175$/meter, find original Porsche leather. So will start to work just now.
Some pictures .

I love what you have done with the car Tomy! I had also looked at the car in Ottawa (and submitted an offer). I am glad I didn't end up with her as she has done much better in your hands and I probably couldn't have dealt with the rust problems.

Are you going to reinstall the silver wheel arch trim?

wheel chrome arch

So I think about it (I need to buy new ones as old ones are maybe not so bad but like to have all chrome new) as according factory certificate it was equipped with but I just wondering it can be too much details on.
So how is your idea?

I have them on my car and I really think they add to the early P-car look but I understand that they are expensive new.

I ended up buying an almost identical 72 911T targa-- originally black like your car used to be in great condition. Still would have been nice to have gotten an S.

Hi Tomy,

Car is looking great! Glad you decided to go with the original pastel blue...lots of Porsche race cars from that time were painted this "Gulf" blue. I'll bet the factory worker/original owner ordered it in that color because of the pride he had in his company's racers! You see tons of racing posters in pictures of the factory during this "winning" time period.

You will have a real gem on your hands when you're finished.

First to Coldstart- I will import pics from camera to my Mac and post some new pics today I oblige to do it....
Second to dmcummins - as I right count :disassembling, body repair, painting takes around 1100 hours, I put now for detailing maybe 150 hours now.
I count that I will spent next 200-250 hours before 21 March (and this is spring -so like to finished my project and run my Porsche for fun)

To silverc4s -my idea is to keep it, but as you now I have next 911S from 1969 as well Targa and it is no idea to keep both identical cars, I think that I should have one Targa and one coupe (my dream RS coupe...)

John cramer - I found original material in Germany (100% the same)
for ca. 250 $ per one Recaro so 500$ for both.
I making investigation here around to find cheaper source for Pepita, if I will find - you will be first to be inform.

jkarolyi - yes it could be. It was difficult decision to keep it in original color but I like it now and think that it was my best decision so let see how it will looks finally.

I will tell you guys what is my plan : I divide my car to 5 areas: rear, front, side, interior, and Top
So I planing to go step by step and first is rear part :
So I just put bumpers, chromes on bumpers, rear reflectors lamps (small bumper reflectors), I installed rear grill, clean engine bay and engine oneself two (first time, it will be clean 3-4 times to have right shape)
I just working on rear lamps - should be install next week. So looks that it should be ready till end og December. (rear)
Next steep is front part - should take 2 weeks in January. Latter like to make interior and this should take me 5 weeks I think.

Happy new year to all my friends!! So some more progress. I decided to put silver PORSCHE script on rear lid (it was original gold) as it looks for me much more cool. (still have gold one in a box)
By the way it is interesting what do you think guys silver or gold looks better for you?

I also put both rubber trim in the back one between aluminum exhaust cover and second trim between rear lid and cover.

Today I will order new trim for Targa top (next $$$) as well as I need new velour carpets and retrim my Pepita/ leather Recaro so will have expenses

With your car Tomy, I prefer the silver lettering. I just bought gold lettering for my 72 targa but my car is black (like Mr. MacBeth's and now your car used to be) to replace the original black lettering. Black lettering on a black car just didn't do it for me....

All the best and keep us updated.

Richard

Awesome car!

I think a car built in late 1970 IS a 1971 model however so it's correct.

I think my '72S targa may have been the same color and it had silver PORSCHE letters on the back stock.
