This was never a problem in my old street machine, they're supposed to smell that way.
Went to an auto-x on Sunday. The course had two 360 turns and a bad spot where I had to shift into second at the begining of a sweeping 90. The tail hung out a lot. I had a ball but now my car stinks like burned rubber instead of new leather. Left the windows down in the garage all night, car still smells. The LAST thing I need is for my wife to smell this. I'd be better off coming home smelling of cheap perfume with a few stray rubbers in the glove box. Help me! |

Put some dryer sheets in the car this also works good to dissapate moisture...downey is my choice..lol but seriously a few sheets under the seats will help soak up the smell.

Could that be clutch as well as tire?
Either way, I'd think going over the seats with a leather cleaner/conditioner and vacuuming the carpets might remove the microscopit pieces of tire and asphalt you tore up at the autocross. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

You mean that you spun twice? |

Ha! What really happened was that I was so slow they made me go to the corner and do doghnuts all afternoon!
No, actually the course had two points where you looped back around. I guess one was a fast 180, the other pretty much a 360 where you rounded a pilon and looped the end pilon running the course in reverse. Lots of wasted P-tires on that one! |

Sprinkle a few dead wabbits around the interior and before you know it, you won't even notice the tire smell.

The General Managers of the top hotels here in NYC recommend placing halved-apples (lengthwise) in opposite corners of a room to remove cigar and other strong odors. You'll probably need many apples simultaneously replaced every 12 hours over the course of a few days, but it may work for tire smoke.

Place an open dish with some vinigar (cheapest household stuff you can get) in the car for a couple of days. Windows closed.
But this doesn't treat the source of course. Jens ------------------ |

Been busy this week (gee, that's unusual) and finally got back in the garage last night. The smell is still there. Took a good look at the car, lots of rubber and tar in the fender wells and rear quarter. Cleaned the shoe polish numbers off the windows. Looks like I'll be working (again) this weekend, but I've got to find the time to wash the car. It's never been this messed up. Price you pay for a good time.
![]() By the way, I had not mentioned it but this was the first auto-x for my car in its wide body form. I was very happy with the way it handled. I let the DE instructor drive a couple of laps, amazing what 30 years of experience can do. I need to finish installing the 5 point harness for the passenger! |
