Okay, for all you SoCal P-car owners, come out this weekend for a POC Short Track event. It will be practice all day on Saturday & timed runs on Sunday.
I will be one of the Event Masters on Saturday (although I won't be driving) so if you come out, then please introduce yourself. If you haven't run with us before, please contact Rick White to schedule an instructor to ride with you (rickized@aol.com). Michael Marshall, Jack Olsen, Andy Yu & Chuck Grieb - are you guys coming out? I hope to see you there. Rich [This message has been edited by 911 (edited 05-09-2001).] |

Michael Marshall and I are both going to be suffering from the "Cambria Flu" during this weekend's event. But I plan on being there for the next short-track event.

Rich, you need any help for the event? I could be there on Saturday. Not sure about Eventmaster since I never be one yet, but at least I could tech car. I've been doing time trial w/ POC for three years and like to be a volunteer. Let me know. email: andyu911@hotmail.com
p.s. I remember who you are since I read your last name. You run a stock Carrera. I have a silver 3.2 JP 391. Run T/T most of the time plus 1 or 2 slalom. Andy [This message has been edited by andyu911 (edited 05-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by andyu911 (edited 05-09-2001).] |

Chris, I'm not sure about the shortest route from Yorba Linda to Interstate 5. Anyway, get on 5 north til you hit 14 north to Palmdale/Lancaster. From here, it's about 45 minutes drive. Exit on Rosamond, turn left. Keep going west and you'll see the track on your right. Hope it help!

Andy,
We could always use good help! Thanks, I will look for you. Btw, I do remember seeing your Silver Carrera, too. Both Chrises (rcwaldo & campbellcj), Have you contacted Rick White yet? Please make sure you do so if you haven't. He gets pretty upset when first timers show up w/o calling him! I'm looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. Rich |

Andy,
We will be doing tech for the event, would love to have some help early Saturday. Look for a big white trailer with Hergesheimer MotorSports and jump right in. See you there Chris, For you the 57 to 210 to 14 would be a quicker route, keep you out of downtown LA. Just be careful coming down the hill to Palmdale/Lancaster, the CHP love to tag guys in the early morn of race day. Don't push much past 75. Rich,
I've been looking forward to this event for months! And with much disappointment, won't be going. In this case, work has gotten in the way of fun . ![]() Chuck Grieb ------------------ http://home.earthlink.net/~cgrieb/index.html |

Being a new member of the PCA, I'm not sure what modifications are required to pass tech inspection. I'm aware that there are different requirements for auto X, time trials, driver’s ed., etc.... Can you please shed some light on exactly what I need to do to my P in order to pass tech. Your response is greatly appreciated.

The primary objective for our tech inspections is to make sure that the car is safe. The car could be stock or highly modified, but the #1 priority is to make sure that it's safe (i.e. battery secured, wheel bearings snug - not loose, helmet is current, brake pedal firm, seat belts are properly secured, etc.). Really dumb question (this'll be my first event w/ POC) -- are the POC slalom/short track events run in a 'traditional' autocross format, i.e. standing start, one lap around and stop? Or is it more of a time trial continuous lapping format, or something in between?
Just curious... Chris C. |

The POC Short Track events are continuous laps around permanent road circuits (i.e. Streets & Buttonwillow). There will be 5-7 practice sessions of 15 - 20 minutes and then timed runs (in this weekend's case, the timed runs will be on Sunday). You will be on the track w/ 20 - 25 other cars during your session. Years ago, many of the Short Track (slalom) events were held on parking lots, but it's different now. Today you could call them a mini time-trial event. Perhaps the main difference between Time Trials & Short Tracks is that the latter is run on smaller tracks (i.e. 1 - 1.5 miles long) with the emphasis on car control. You can still go pretty quickly at the Streets, though. On the main straight the quick guys are over 100 mph, but most of the corners are taken in 2nd & 3rd gear. At Buttonwillow (east loop) there are 3rd & 4th gear corners. So, although the top speed may not be as fast as the Streets, the cornering speeds are definitely higher. See you on Saturday, Chris! Fantastic - Thanks again Rich. That's exactly what I was hoping for - I'm not a big fan of the start-go-stop autox format. Some of the local PCA events have kinda 'tainted' it for me (i.e., 15 minutes of driving and 1.5 hrs of working corners in a 10 hr event...)
And the Streets looks like a great track for my stock-ish (CI) 914 and semi-newbie driving ability. I ran the Big Track in my 911 with the Tracquest group recently, and while I had tremendous fun and learned a fair amount, it was a little intimidating at my (in)experience level. Should be a fun weekend! :-) |
