Lowering my 1980 911 SC Targa
I would like to lower my 1980 SC. What procedures / parts are necessary for the operation?
Also I am in the market for replacing the shocks. What are recommended? KYB, Koni or Bilstiens? Thanks.

Get Wayne's 101 Projects for your 911. It will show you how to lower your SC along with 100 other things you can do yourself. As to shocks both Koni and Bilsteins are good choices. KYB is a lower grade strut/shock and you may not like the ride.

I suggest you change your shocks first, see what that does to the ride height, and then do the lowering.
In my own experience, going from conventional no-pressure Konis to Bilsteins (high pressure gas) raises the car about 1", maybe a little more. Not from my own experience, but I think if you have Boge or other "low-pressure gas" shocks (Koni makes one), changing to Bilsteins will raise the car about 1/2", and going to no-pressure types will lower it a similar amount. Although the temptation is to change everything at one time, there is only a small probability that the results will be what you wanted.
