source for MFI protractors?
does anyone know a source for purchasing MFI protractors? They are shown in the "check, measure, adjust" manual and I want to buy a set for posterity's sake.
Thanks! |
I think Milt had some made.

No, I never made the project happen. Here's why: in order to do the calibration, the degrees have to be within +- .5 degree across the scale according to the CMA. Now that's pretty darn tight tolerances. But what's more, there isn't a heck of a lot you can do to change the relationship of the pump bar, cross bar, and push bars if you follow the rest of the CMA and set the pump bar at 114mm +- 2mm. The angle of the cross bar is now set determined by the 114mm rod. Once that is set, the push bars have to be set to where the butterfly arms rest at closed. No way to really change anything except for fudging this and that a little like moving the throttle bodies back or forward in what little slop there is in the drilled holes.
I worked with the mechanics of the MFI system enough to realize that butterfly correlation is way more important. Lastly, my design involved silk screening the degree arch's on clear polycarbonate so you could see the marks from both angles. Getting the screening on within the tolerances required more or less killed the project. If anyone has any ideas, I have a half finished project waiting along with a full set of the real protractors and needles. But, I think the protractors are way over rated and only serve to tell whether you have the correct bars for your model MFI. |
