Factory Paint in a spray can

Gentlemen,
I just purchased a lovely, well maintained 1982 911sc coupe in Platinum Metallic. My plan is to just enjoy this beautiful car. However, I noticed a little rust on the underside of the fill cap and a chip on the rear deck that hasn't come completely loose yet. Here are my questions, where do I get a rattle can of Platinum Metallic? How do I stick down the chip before it flies off?
Thanks in advance,
Layne

Believe you paint is tri-coat. Base, pearl, clear.

I would do touch ups by hand with bottle paint and the fingernail type brush. These paints are available.

Some guys are really successful at this, easiest being the single stage colors. With the platinum paint, I can say with confidence you will make it look imperfect the least amount with hand touch up.

You can buy the three paints in cans, mixed up by a jobber. It will not match.

However, I an not a pro. There are some professionals that help a lot in the Paint and Bodywork forum here. Post there and get their input. They are good about responding.

Preval and have paint mixed to match your car. Remove one on the TB covers and take it in for the paint match.

Check out Automotivetouchup.com, I've used it for hinges.

Take a few pictures of the rust and chip and post them up here. I and I know many on here have done touch up work and guide you through it if it makes sense. If the damage is broad enough it may make more sense to have a body shop perform the repairs. You definitely want to stop the rust before it grows.

If you have a Sherwin-Williams automotive in your area, they will take the paint code and make a 3 rattle can batch for you. I did it for my Diamond Blue Metallic and used in on a lower valance, and it matched perfectly. Cost me $50, and well worth it. I have a lot left over for and have seriously considered buying a set of euromeister fuchs just so I can paint them DBM and see what that looks like with the car.

Preval is a great tool.

Just want to say again, the tri-coat colors are really, really hard to get right.

This is good info. I could get one panel separate from the rest of the car to match (vertical part of trunk). However, a mid-panel fender repair did not turn out optimally where there was nearby original paint to compare it to.

I would try. Even if it means it will not look perfect. Would be optimal to find a glue that would be fast setting and you could apply pressure with a finger. After drying use a wee bit of acetone to wipe off squished out glue. Super glue?

Definitely spray the underside of the gas lid using the Sherwin Williams option. If they can mix for $50-ish that is awesome.

How about 5-minute epoxy to glue down the chip near the trunk. Excess epoxy can be cleaned off with denatured alcohol on a Q-tip which does not attack the other paint.

Sounds good. Acetone will definitely soften the paint with enough exposure and rubbing.

Thanks for all your help! There is a Sherman Williams just down the street. And, I am going to try the two part epoxy in the morning.

Be careful of that chip. It looks to be in the area of a know rust spot (top of front wheel well between front fender and bolt flange).

OP noted it's on the rear deck. Looks like on the rear quarter next to the engine lid.

On a side note, I get a kick out of some pictures that are deep in the innards of the car, close up, cocked at 90 degrees, no explanation and a "what's this?" question.

Oops, you are correct. Always pays to look for a root cause.

great news on Sherwin Williams, I never heard that one. My 78 SC has some thinning paint on the front that needs help. Can't do a repaint, so this might be the ticket. Thanks for that post.
