Post Steering Wheel tips and suggestions?

While out driving, I broke the original steering on my SC (those welds that hold the center spokes in gave in two places). I've always liked the red&black momo steering wheels (I think it's the Apache model), so I'm thinking of ordering one of those and installing it. The install looks simple enough (I've removed mine before) - are there any gotchas involved (adapters, etc)? And does anyone that's changed steering wheels have other recommendations, like Dino or Nardi models?

Thanks,

Emanuel

There is an adapter that pushes the wheel out tward you a bit. This is good if you have big hands or long legs (or both). I've seen several dashes marked up and cut by big hand owners wearing rings.

I have the OEM 930S wheel purchased from AJ-USA. It's shown on their website.
This was recommended to me by fellow member, Jack Olsen. I really like it. Expensive, but very well made and (IMO) makes most other wheels look like trashy add-ons.

We sell these wheels all the time. You need the adapter for your 911, but other than that, it should take about 10 minutes to install. Make sure that you look at our steering wheel removal technical article before you begin...

Okay, I've checked the suggestions, so here's a follow-up: The wheel on the Pelican site I like is the red/black Momo Top Power. With the hub adapter, it's about the same price as the 930S wheel Doug mentions. Does the 930S require any sort of adapter?

Also, my SC is used more as a tourer than anything; I make frequent 800-mile round trips, and I'd like the wheel to be comfortable - how are these in that respect? Also, how are they in cold weather? One thing I hate about the OEM wheel on the SC it's freezing during Chicago winters.

Also, on the AJ-USA site they show a foot-rest for the 911, something I've always seen for coupes but not Targas and cabs. Anyone tried one of those?

EP,
I have both the Steering wheel and the pedal.
The wheel looks OEM, comes with the cloisonne and the adaptor, all leather. Very well done. The dead pedal took a little getting used to, but just a little. I couldn't find a place to put my foot w/o it. Your knee remains a little bent, but if you don't like it , it's not big bucks. You do mount it with screws that go into and through the wheel well though. Cut off the threads after your done and put on a dab of silicone.
Two very good choices. In all fairness, I haven't tried the pelican MOMO wheel.
It's nice to have a 27mm socket and an aire wrench to take off the wheel.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery before you start playing, or you may mess up the headlinr when you scare yourself as the horn goes OFF. Need more help, E me.

Just keep in mind that most aftermarket wheels are smaller in diameter, and I believe the "top Power" model is one of the smallest! So low speed maneuvering will be a pain (e.g. driveways and parking lots).

I've got both, too, as well as AJ-USA's aluminum pedals. Very nice, and it's an upgrade you 'experience' every time you drive. The 930S wheel is comfortable, and thicker than a lot of cheap aftermarket wheels.

EJ,
The Top Power I'm looking at is 350mm and the 930S is 355 mm, while (I think) the OEM wheel is 380 mm, so it's not that dramatic a difference, is it? The wheel on my 66 Roll-Royce is 17" (432 mm)in diameter (think bus steering wheel) and parking that whale is no picnic :-) Can't wait to replace that thing!
Jack,
Thanks for the pics. I notice you've got the armrest/cupholder add-on too. How's that working out for ya? That would be handy on long trips as well.

As it stands, I'm leaning towards the 930 wheel as it has that OEM look. Too bad they don't have the crest hub for the Momos anymore...

Emanuel, the center armrest is great. Right now, it's not in the car, though, since I replced the seats last week. Now I've got to figure out a new way to mount it. On the four hour drive north this weekend, I really missed having it. It's nice to be able to rest the old elbows on long drives.
