Post Read how I got 5 more Hp out of my 911SC for $3 and 5 min job

OK, I was just removing my heater blower and all the duct work. It was all out when I noticed the air intake to the filter and then the air exit out of the engine fan that feeds the heater blower. I though, what if I connect the output of the engine fan to the air intake instead of connecting it to the heater blower intake?

I picked picked up some aluminium ducting used for dryers and hooked one end to the air box intake and the other end to the air exit of the engine fan with duct tape (yes, duct tape). I took her for a ride. It seemed like there was more power at the upper end, but I needed proof.

I decided to use the "street dyno" techinque to get actual numbers. (If you don't know what "street dyno" is, read about it in the tech article section. Great program).

I did four runs with the "turbo" duct connected, and four without.

The following are the numbers with the "turbo" duct on:
185@5690
181@5570
187@5630
182@5520
average= 183.75Hp @5602rpm

and the following are with the duct removed:
180@5510
178@5530
177@5360
181@5560
average= 179Hp @ 5490rpm

Looking at the graphs, it seems like with the turbo duct connected, the torque drops off at a higher rpm this results in the higher Hp and higher rpm.

Anyway it was a real quick mod (It took about 5minutes) and only costed $3.

I will get some gauges and measure how much "boost" I am getting. I'll report later on that.

My next step is too make a "home made" blower/supercharger which will give me more boost.

Wink

Imagine the HP gains you could get if you connected a TORO leaf blower motor in there...
I believe there's already a product on the market that uses this very same theory. I remember reading about it on rennlist about 2 years ago. The guys name was Mark Kibort (or something like that).

Porsche Crest

I have this product sitting on my office floor - I'm planning on installing it this weekend and doing a tech article on it. Looks like Pelican is going to resell it as well.

We'll keep you posted:

I also considered this when I installed headers on my last 911. I opted to block off the heat duct in favor of more airflow (cooling) for the engine.

Question

Here's a dyno sheet from an '84 Carrera using the e-Ram system. They say/show a 4-6% increase in HP, with a peak of 10hp. If this is for real, it doesn't sound too bad for $299.
