Tailpipe smoke
Hi All,
I just purchased an 89 911 coupe a few days ago. The car is in great condition and has 46k documented miles. The car does not normally smoke and has no leaks. Yesterdday I was doing some low speed driving around town with some traffic. All of a sudden, there was a big cloud of smoke coming from the tail pipe which lasted for about 2 blocks. It seemed like all of a sudden oil was dumped into the cylinders. I continued to drive the car with varying speeds and the car acted normally with no smoke. Any ideas on what this could be? Possibly a stuck oil pressure relief valve? Thanks, Chas |

Check the oil level first. This symptom usually occurs when people have overfilled the oil tank. Engine has to be at full operating temperature, running (idling for a minute, at least) on level ground and checked with the dipstick, not the gauge.
