Need Advice 1990 911 C2

Car has low miles around 50,000. I live in Toronto, Canada. Car is making a noise similar to knocking/headers. Mechanic says it is the crankshaft bearing for the number 3 piston that is failing, thus making the noise. Another person said it could be a cylinder head leak....There are no metal fragments in the oil, that was checked.

I am working with a mechanic in Toronto called EUAUTOWERKS.

Can someone give me feedback on this issue?

Thanks,

If you don't want to take their word for it I would get a 8-12" long something (Wooden Dowel, long ratchet extension) and use it as a stethoscope to locate approximately where the sound is being generated. Possibly easiest from under the car but you could at least listen to the valve train from above. Excessive valve lash can be very loud assuming the sound didn't start all at once.

Edit: If you've never once done this, I like to put my thumb over the top of an extension and then use the knucle of my thumb at least to some extent to plug my ear; very effective.
