Car sitting for years...brakes won't stop it!

I just fired up my "barn find" 914-6 after quite a few years (10 +/-) of sitting. Bled the brakes and have decent pedal. However, when I try to stop (although pedal is firm), car keeps rolling along, as if the brake pads aren't biting. It eventually comes to a stop, but it isn't a hard pull like you would get from "normal" brakes (I only cruised around the parking lot in 1st gear to test).

Do I need new pads?

Sounds like the pistons aren't moving. You bled the brakes but that just pushes the fluid out of the lines. It doesn't mean you moved the pistons while doing it.

My "find" was the same way, it had been sitting for 5 years. I rebuilt the brakes and they work great now.

I was trying to avoid re-building the brakes, as I'll eventually be swapping out the suspension for 911 suspension (where I'll get all new stuff). Hoping it was just the pads, but...looks like I'll be sending Wayne this weeks beer money!

When you do the swap, the front is a no brainer. The rear is another matter. I'd do some research on this. If I had it to do all over again, I'd use the stock 914 brakes on the rear and preserve the e-brake. Getting a 911 e-brake set up in there is pretty major. The front brakes do most of the braking anyway. If you do the A or S front calipers and remove the proportioning valve (keeping the stock rears) the thing will throw you thru the windshield.

im probrobly not the only one that wouldnt mind seeing pics of the car Id pull the calipers off and make sure the sliders are sliding and plungers are plunging. May or may not need pads. The calipers might free up with some pb if there stuck

I've been researching the swap for quite some time. I believe someone makes a retro-fit e-brake kit for the swap. On the other hand, there aren't any hills here in FLA! I may just install a line-lock and use that.

Pics on the way.

It looks like I'll have to pull the calipers no matter what, so I'll try and save what I got.
