3.6 flywheel conversion question
Getting ready to drop 1990 3.6 into 87 chassis. What experience do you have with LWF's from Patrick and Timmins. Curious which one to choose, if you could share your experience with either one of those flywheels please let me know. Thanks in advance.

i've used both. You won't go wrong w/ either

Kennedy Engineered Products in Palmdale CA has stuff as well. I wouldn't be caught dead with ANY Patrick MotorSport product.

What chip best solves LWF stalling issue?

Pelican sells the No Bad Days chip. I use it and so does our Moderator. Dual program allows for the stock mapping and an enhanced setting with the flip of a switch.
While not strictly smog legal....I did pass with the switch set at the enhanced setting. I believe Jack has a dyno chart with the NBD and the stock chip as a comparison. |
No intention to use AC. Mike, do you have any stalling issues with NBD chip? Also, how is it programmed? Stock headers? Aftermarket? 993 HE's?
|
Also, can I use 964 RS LWF flywheel? Could it work with 87 G50?

Particulars on the NBD chip can be addressed by Ingo at 3.6@cox.net , he's told me that he would do specific adjustments on a dyno if you have the motor hooked up...I use 993 HEs that have the flange swapped, no A/C....if it gets hot, I put the top down.
As to Patrick MotorSports, the guy pisszed me off back in the early 90s by talking to me like an idiot when I was looking to drop some serious $$ on conversion parts for a couple of 914/6s. He also wouldn't warranty some of his crappy engine mount bars that had cracks. It's my life's work to make a snotty comment evertime that jerkoff's name comes up. If it costs him a sale, my day is complete.... |
Bill, I just want to be 100% sure that it will work for my conversion. I know dimension wise it will work, but will it work with 87 G50 sensors etc. or should I buy a proven conversion piece? I have a lead on good used 964 LWF, and it'll be slightly less $$$$ than new flywheel.

Late took the car to him and he did extensive work on backdating my 1985 to 1973 RS specs. The work is as good as factory quality and simply beautiful. Cost? Its not cheap but the work was simply excellent and I would rather pay a descent price once than have to mess with it later on. His work is as good as the factory or better and he supports his products. I cannot say that about all the others who produce 3.6 conversion parts and kits. There are a lot of guys on this forum who are VERY happy with PMS, then there are some who feel the opposite way. Call him and see for yourself. Joe A PS Mike Z is THE man to go for when you need graphics and the dual mode chip for the 3.6. I use both on my car and am good friends with Mike... we just do not agree on Jim Patrick but still enjoy beer's together! |
