Cool rear tracking accentric bolt question

I need to make a small adjustment to my rear toe setting and give it more toe-in. I have a gauge. My question is: do i need to loosen any other nuts besides the toe accentric bolt to make this change? and does anyone know what direction to turn this bolt on the driver's side to give me more toe-in? 81'SC

Lagoon,
What gauge are you using? In order to get anything to move at all, you would have to loosen the two clamping bolts closer to the hub. As to what direction to turn the eccentric...that depends upon its current position. I believe moving the eccentric to the rear relative to the axis of the threaded portion of the bolt would have the effect of shortening that leg of the triangle formed by the banana arm and the spring plate. If your guage is doing its job, and can be correctly interpreted, you will be able to observe the changes in toe as you rotate the eccentric throughout a revolution. If not, get the car to a good alignment shop at a reasonable and prudent speed.
Good luck

so I loosen the rear bolts and then adjust the eccentric? since i haven't looked under there yet, are these hard to find? I know where the eccentric is (doesn't it have a lock nut on it?) thanks

A do it your self alignment requires some understanding of the procedures needed to change your wheels settings. By not knowing which or how many bolts to turn, this might be a sign that you are not ready for this step. You would be better in going to a shop. I am not tring to give you a hard time, just want to see you have it done properly.

my rear camber is too negative, my buddy with a repair shop has alignment gear but is clueless about german cars. So I have a way of correctly measuring the settings, just have to find out how to bring the camber closer to 0 than what it currently is (all the wear is on the inside one inch) I just want to make sure the correct bolts are loosened, then retightened to lock the new settings in.

The eccentric bolt that controls toe can be postioned two different ways, so you won't be able to tell which direction the control arm will move until you see if the eccentric is above or below the centerline of the threaded portion. If the eccentric is below, turning the head clockwise pulls the arm further forward, reducing toe. If the eccentric is above, turning the head clockwise pushs the arm further rearward, increasing toe.
I believe you will also need to loosen the Camber adjusting bolt (along with the previously mentioned bolts) as it also clamps on the spring plate.

Johnd, I don't know how you got on my message but anyway, to reduce camber on LR, turn eccentric bolt counterclockwise.

These eccentrics are rather like camshafts. Turning a camshaft in either direction will either open or close a valve DEPENDING UPON ITS CURRENT POSITION. You can't be sure what will happen in the next 90 deg of rotation unless you know where it is now. Leave this to the professionals. its cheaper than a set of worn-out rear tires.
