Post Carrera tail installation

Anybody with tips on how to install a Carrera tail on a 911 SC? Looking for a template to help me drill the holes in the right places. If anybody has one and is willing to lend or sell it to me I would really appreciate. Thanks guys,

George

Well, there's always this technique!
Three of the holes line up with the top row of the grill fitting.
I drilled these out of the tail only and mounted it with these three.
Then I opened the lid, grabbed a nice thick drill bit, eyeballed the tail/lid mating and drilled the holes up through the lid and tail. Then I put my 10mm bolts/nuts on.

Measure once.

Mark holes.

Measure again.

Recheck markings.

Measure third time...

Drill holes.

Install tail. Beat self on head with drill because somehow it doesn't line up....

ah ha! Now you know why I took the pragmatic, although generally more frowned upon approach. Pics of my machine with Carrera Tail (no rubber lip, whole tail matches car), and fron spoiler. Definitely a meaner look!

Install the top three bolts to keep the tail in position. Use chalk or a marker to mark the positions for the holes to be drilled. If you lower your A/C condensor, you can mark the holes from the "inside" of the tail. Remove the top three bolts to remove the tail and then drill the holes. Pretty easy really.

Just to add to the above posts: Use masking tape around the mounting-hole perimeter on your deck lid to mark your hole locations. Otherwise your pencil/marker/chalk marks made directly on the paint will rub off, and are harder to see.

Plus the masking tape helps keep the drill bit from "walking" and the paint from chipping.

PS, I was kidding--I cheated the same way you did, Kurt. I've seen so many bad installations, though, that it's a wonder you don't see more 911s nose first off the side of the road, victims of too much left aileron.

Don't forget, there's a bracket that should be used in association with the lower mounting bolts. This bracket provides a more solid mounting than simply relying on the lids sheet metal.
